I love this short film.
I loved it the first time I saw it, perhaps a year ago, I love it even more now that I understand why this type of mix speaks to me.
My friends will probably roll their eyes if I shared this. It’s no secret that since watching Romeo Must Die (was I twelve years old then or what?) I’ve sort of had a type, and it hasn’t even been just a guy thing, it’s the culture, I’m as drawn to it as I could be to anything that isn’t inherently natural to me.
Perhaps when I was younger it’s had something to do with feeling like the ‘other’, a feeling which for better and worse was pretty normal to me then, yet not altogether always comfortable, a feeling that made me who I am today, the one always seeking the other ‘other’. I have always wanted a violent clash of backgrounds, cultures, rules… I want to learn a language that will surprise others when I speak it, and looking even farther out, I want my future kids to be beyond boxes and stereotypes. This is clearly an example of this. It’s slightly obvious and cheesy, but in a way, that’s what makes it so good. After all, it should be this easy.
Look beyond.
